GLORY TO THE KING CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
GTKCC is a pioneer local church at Boolarra, in the LaTrobe Valley in Victoria, Australia.
We are part of Glory to the King Ministries International. To learn more about GTKMI, click here.
We are a Pentecostal Church and believe in the power of God to heal. To read our local church vision, click here. To read our Statement of Faith click here. To read our Statement of Moral Standards click here. To read about Senior Minister Rev. Lynn Fowler, click here.
At Glory to the King Christian Community we have several particular emphases.
* Firstly, we emphasise worship. We believe that our great and wonderful God is worthy to be worshipped, and that worship should be an end in itself, not merely a lead up to the preaching or a "fill-in". Generally, our music is quieter and more worshipful than that of most Pentecostal churches. As we develop, we aim to have one night a week that is given solely to worship – not preaching, not asking God for anything, but simply giving Him the adoration He deserves. Eventually, we aim to have a centre where worship and intercession will ascend before the Throne of God 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
* Secondly, we emphasise prayer. We recognise our own inadequacy, and our complete dependence on God. We want our service for Him to be totally led and empowered by His Spirit. Therefore we see prayer as central and essential.
* Thirdly, we emphasise the Word of God. We believe that the Bible is God's inerrant word to us, and that everything we say and do must be measured against it.
* Fourthly, we emphasise community. We believe that church is not just about meeting together for a couple of hours on Sunday and through the week, but about our relationships one with another, and each with our neighbours in the world, throughout the week. We seek to build relationships with each other based on genuine love, concern and respect, and with the world based on the love of Christ.
* Fifthly we emphasise missions, in praying and giving to support our brethren in third-world countries.
* Finally, and most importantly, we emphasise the Holy Spirit. It is He who leads our services, and we seek to give Him freedom to move however He pleases. Thus, if the Spirit is moving in a particular service, there may not be a sermon. Or worship may give way to prayer for individuals. Often we find that there is a tangible, awesome presence of the Lord in our services which sees us unable to do anything other than wait before Him in silence. Likewise, people are free to respond to the Spirit's moving in them. If they need to kneel, or to get on their faces on the floor before the Lord, or to dance, or whatever, that is fine as long as it does not disrupt the experience of others.
So why a “community” rather than a “church”? When most people hear the word “church” they think of a church building. However, the church is not a building, but a group of people seeking to grow together as they serve the Lord and each other. So, right from the outset, we have opted to emphasize the aspect of our shared lives by using the word “community” instead of “church.”
